Nigerian appointment season continues as President Muhammadu Buhari appoints new heads for Nigerian health institutions. President Buhari approved the appointment of heads of five strategic health institutions.
The health institutions with new heads includes, the Centre for Disease Control, National Agency for the Control of Aids, the Nigerian Institute for Medical Research, National Primary Health Care Development Agency and National Health Insurance Scheme.
The Centre for Disease Control: The new head is Dr Chikwe Andreas Ihekweazu. He was the managing partner at EpiAfric, a public health consultancy firm that focuses on Africa before his appointment.
National Agency for the Control of Aids (NACA): Appointed as the new head of NACA is Dr Sani Aliyu. Before his appointment Dr Aliyu Sani was a consultant in Microbiology and Infectious Diseases at Cambridge University, United Kingdom.
National Primary Health Care Development Agency: Prof. Echezona Ezeanolue is the new boss at the National Primary Health Care Development Agency. Professor Echezona was a professor of Paediatrics and Public Health at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, USA.
The Nigerian Institute for Medical Research: president Buhari also approved the appointement of Prof. Babatunde Salako as the head of the Nigerian Institute for Medical Research. Before his new appointment, Professor Salako was the Provost, College of Medicine at the University of Ibadan.
The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS): This agency will now be headed by Prof. Usman Yusuf. He was until his appointment, a professor of Paediatrics at St. Jude Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, USA.
All appointments, according to Presidency sources have taken effect. They are to resume duties as the heads of the over listed Nigerian institutions.
